I'm from Winnipeg and have eaten Imperial Cookies from just about everywhere in the city. My favorites are from Family Foods Bakery on Portage Ave or St. Mary's Rd. The cookies are not mass produced and baked fresh everyday. These are the only cookies in the city that even come close to Grandmothers' recipe. The cookie is soft and rich and they use the perfect (and not too sweet) raspberry jam. The glaze is perfection. Check them out and you will not be disappointed.

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, but was longing for change. I packed up two suitcases, threw them in my car and headed west. I wanted to live in the big city. When i first arrived in BC i stayed with a friend in Coquitlam, which was fine because I had my car, But i wanted to experience life downtown. Young and single I figured it was now or never. I found myself a roommate and rented a beautiful loft just outside of Yaletown. Everything you need is just a few steps away.. I can walk to the seawall in 5 minutes, I can head over to Robson in 3 minutes or I can hit up the Davie village in 10 mins, But what fun is it to have all of this stuff around you if you can't afford it. I'm learning this now. The high is wearing off and the reality is hitting me. I often think that I should move back home to Peg city, back to my friends, back to the affordability. The only turn off is the weather. Will I regret it? It seems like most of the ppl in Winnipeg are always wanting to move out of there. Now that I've experienced this life on the west coast, i'm realizing that I am a prairie girl at heart. I feel like i'm doing the same things out here in Van that i'd be doing in Wpg, except it's costing me three times as much to do it, and I don't have my friends along for the ride. Lets face it, the people out here in Van aren't as warm and inviting. People barely even make eye contact when walking down the street, they're either too busy on their phones, or looking down as they walk. To stay or leave, that is the question... Advice anyone?

We are getting married this summer and I was just preparing our invitations and an information sheet to go with. We won't be registered anywhere and I was just looking how others say they are looking for presentation, and I found this site. It didn't come across to me as being rude until I read this. Myself and my fiance both have everything we need for the house, we haven't lived together and so we actually have doubles of things as it is, I didnt want to get triples+ of things so I wanted to ask for presentation. We are planning our wedding to be very affordable, we aren't looking for presentation to cover the cost of our wedding. But we are moving into a house right after the wedding and so if people are wanting to get us something, money is preferred. Now to decide how to say that, or should I say it...hmmm...

People put too much thought into weddings. What's the big deal? So you give a "physical" gift, or so you give money, or so you give nothing at all and just go to the wedding. Big deal. If someone wants money why shouldn't they be able to ask for money? If you're going to think someone is rude for asking for money, then don't go to the wedding! How is it more rude for a wedding couple to ask for money than for guests to complain and think it's "AWFUL" if there's a cash bar? Give me a break. If you don't want to give money, then don't go. The last thing people need is more crappy toasters and coffee makers.

... just googling (i really wanted to know what makes 'winnipeg-style' cream cheese different from others, which is how I landed here in the first place) and found this on the Parmalat website:

Beatrice Winnipeg Style Cream cheese is our most spreadable cream cheese. This makes it ideal for lighter textured bakery filling applications, dips or sauces. It also delivers a distinct cultured flavour for a rich, creamy taste.

So I guess W-style is just creamier, whipped, and more spreadable.
